- Casa Ceramic - Illusion, Retail
Our Design and Manufacturing teams have the expertise and passion to push the boundaries, creating inspiring surfaces tailor-made to suit individual need and unique design challenges. The show-stopping entrance to Casa Ceramica's designer tile showroom in Manchester certainly put this to the test. Casa Ceramic - Illusion ENQUIRE NOW < Back Overview Retail SECTOR: with Armatile ARCHITECT / DESIGNER Manchester LOCATION: Casa Ceramica CLIENT: COMPLETION DATE: 2017-08-17 The Brief Over the past number of years, images of this amazing optical illusion floor have gone viral across several social media platforms. We are proud to say we manufactured this floor to realise our client’s vision. It is the entrance to the showroom of Manchester designer tile company Casa Ceramica. It is a perfectly flat floor and has been designed and manufactured (using waterjet cutting) to create the illusion of flowing movement. When developing their new showroom the Casa Ceramic Team wanted to have a show-stopping entrance that would push the boundaries show off what could actually be achieved with tiles. -The Design Process With an original theme of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ they approached Armatile to help; they were aware of our in house design team and specialist manufacturing capability. Our team produced some initial concept drawings and worked closely with the client to successfully design a floor that produces an optical illusion that looks like it is rolling and sinking. But don’t worry it is perfectly safe. -The Manufacturing Process Using extremely hard wearing, slip resistant tiles (PTV+36) our manufacturing team waterjet cut every single piece of this floor into a particular shape to fit the design. They were all then dry laid on our factory floor to ensure everything fitted, before being labelled, packaged and shipped to site for installation. -The Installation Process When the tiles arrived at Casa ceramic the installation was helped greatly by the fact each piece was numbered. Working to the numbered drawing that accompanied the order, the entire entrance floor was installed in under nine hours (spread over 4 days to minimise impact on customers). -Bespoke Surfaces The dedication, skill and technical knowledge of Armatile’s team is integral part of its offering and ability to consistently delivering high quality bespoke tile surfaces for clients’ projects. - St Comgall's Parish Church, Churches / Restoration
St Comgall’s Parish Church is an historic building constructed in 1889. It takes its name from the founder of Bangor Abbey which is situated just a few hundred metres away and originally built around 555AD. St Comgall's Parish Church ENQUIRE NOW < Back Overview Churches / Restoration SECTOR: Mclean & Forte Partnership ARCHITECT / DESIGNER Bangor, Co Down LOCATION: St Comgall's Parish Church CLIENT: COMPLETION DATE: 2019-12-11 The Brief The Architect’s creative vision for the centre aisle was to take visitors on a journey across Europe, highlighting the areas visited by St Comgall while highlighting his origins in Bangor, Co Down. Working to the Architects designs Armatile’s in-house design team drew up detailed fabrication drawings for the client’s approval and itemised each individual piece required to be ordered from the manufacturer for the project. Within each section of the aisle there are 54 individual waterjet cut pieces that are fitted together to create an ornate Celtic weave linking one part of St Comgall’s Mission from Bangor, through Europe where he established monasteries in countries such as France, Switzerland and Italy. Our manufacturing team based in our factory in Armagh then used high powered waterjet cutting machinery to cut the base tiles into all the individual shapes before delicately hand assembling each piece in the intricate designs and panels before despatching them to site. This latter element was very important as the preformed designs significantly reduced the fitting time and cost on site. St Comgall's Parish Church Next Previous
- St Patricks Cathedral Armagh, Churches
St Patrick’s Cathedral (TTA award winner 2004 best use of tile by an architect or designer). St Patricks Cathedral Armagh ENQUIRE NOW < Back Overview Churches SECTOR: Gregory Architects and Rooney and McConville Architects ARCHITECT / DESIGNER Cathedral Road LOCATION: St Patrick's Cathedral, Armagh CLIENT: COMPLETION DATE: 2003-06-01 The Brief St Patrick’s Cathedral in Armagh underwent an extensive restoration in 2002/2003. The then Archbishop, now Cardinal, Dr Sean Brady appointed Gregory Architects and Rooney and McConville Architects to oversee the project. A main element of this £6 million 17 month refit, which was part-funded by the Heritage Lottery, entailed the redesigning of the sanctuary including the complete manufacture and fitment of a new floor by Armatile to the exacting specifications of the liturgal architect. From the complex curved radius trellis patterns, through the stunning use of engraved polished porcelain on the altar, to the replication of original mosaic flooring in the bapistry and synod bathrooms, the complexity, scale and detailed finish requested by the architectural brief of this project required Armatile to utilize the full range of skills of our technical manufacturing and fitting teams. Only then could we ensure a perfect manufactured and fitted finish as per specification. It was even possible to incorporate a modern take by the architect with a new mosaic/waterjet cut section inspired by an original drawing which had not been incorporated into the original build, bringing to life a design that lay dormant for over a hundred years. - Peter Marks Hair Salon, Commercial
Peter Mark Style Club is not just a hair salon, but it is also the Creative Centre which Peter Mark uses as a training hub for all their 72 salons throughout Ireland Winner of "Best use of a tile by an Architect or Designer" in 2009. Peter Marks Hair Salon ENQUIRE NOW < Back Overview Commercial SECTOR: Douglas Wallace ARCHITECT / DESIGNER Dublin LOCATION: Peter Mark Style Club CLIENT: COMPLETION DATE: 2009-09-01 The Brief Peter Mark Style Club is not just a hair salon, but it is also the Creative Centre which Peter Mark uses as a training hub for all their 72 salons, north and south of the border. Style Club is their latest evolution in an industry that has to adapt to constant change. The chic interior must also be functional as the training academy will facilitate up to 800 hairdressers who will work on over 12,000 hours of training in the first year alone. The client, working with top architects Douglas Wallace, wanted the imagery of cut hair on the floor as a catwalk style runner to add to the already funky décor. The idea was that in normal salons the hair is swept off the floor but in this salon the hair is the integral part of the floor. A sample was produced on the architect’s specification and when this was passed the work began on the project. The floor was fitted with a 60x60cm white polished porcelain tile. The hair clipping were subsequently cut out a corresponding black 60x60cm tile. Our waterjet machine was used to cut the exact shapes out of the black tiles and to make the cut outs in the white tiles. The design and style involved in all aspects of the project meant that the floor had to be equally spectacular, and with the TTA Award victory and repeat orders for more Peter Mark salons, that result was achieved. Ballywalter Park ENQUIRE NOW < Back Overview Heritage Restoration SECTOR: Alastair Coey Architects ARCHITECT / DESIGNER Ballywalter Estate LOCATION: Lord and Lady Dunleath CLIENT: COMPLETION DATE: 2009-08-01 The Brief A significant Grade A* listed house built for the present owner's Great, Great, Great Grandfather, Lord Mayor Andrew Mulholland between 1846 and 1850. It was designed of the distinguished artist Sir Charles Lanyon. The picturesque conservatory, also by Lanyon, was added c.1870. The Restoration of Ballywalter Park has been ongoing for many years, having commenced in the late 1950s - early 1960s. Directly because of Armatile’s surface design expertise and level of understanding in this field of historical restoration it was appointed to work with Contractor HJ O’Boyle on the sympathetic renovation project. Utilising its design expertise and manufacturing capabilities Armatile employed its waterjet cutting capabilities to create radial borders and features for the new floor areas.
