Mixing Tile Formats
Using different tile formats in the same kitchen is a growing trend across Ireland. A popular combination is a large format porcelain floor tile paired with a smaller format handmade-look wall tile on the splashback. The contrast in scale adds visual interest and makes the space feel curated rather than off-the-shelf. Our design team can help you put together a combination that works for your kitchen.

01
Floor to Ceiling Tiling
One of the most dramatic transformations you can make in a kitchen is taking your wall tile from the worktop all the way to the ceiling. It removes the need for a painted wall above the cabinets, creates a bold and intentional look and makes the room feel taller. It works especially well with large format tiles or simple vertical metro tiles. Increasingly popular in new builds across Dublin, Belfast and beyond.

Warm Tones & Natural Finishes
Kitchens across Ireland are moving away from stark white and embracing warmer, more natural tones in 2026. Terracotta, sandy beige, warm grey and soft sage are all popular choices right now. These colours work particularly well with wood-effect cabinetry and create a kitchen that feels lived-in and welcoming rather than clinical.
04
The Kitchen Island as a Feature
Kitchen islands are increasingly being used as a design feature in their own right, with a different tile used on the island floor or sides to the rest of the kitchen. A bold patterned tile or a contrasting colour on the island base creates a focal point and adds personality to open-plan spaces.

FAQS
Common questions about kitchen tiles
Armatile is one of Ireland and Northern Ireland's leading kitchen tile suppliers, with showrooms in Dublin, Belfast, Armagh and Newry. Whether you're tiling a kitchen in Cork, Galway, Limerick or anywhere across the island of Ireland, our team can help you choose the right tile for your space, style and budget.
They don't have to match exactly but they should complement each other. A popular approach is to use a large format neutral floor tile and introduce a bolder or more textured tile on the splashback wall. Our design team can help you put together a combination that works for your kitchen layout and colour scheme.
In most cases yes, though you should check the weight of the tile first as very heavy floor tiles can be difficult to fix to walls. Many of our porcelain tiles are suitable for both walls and floors. Our team will always check the tile specification with you to make sure you are using the right product in the right place.
Gloss tiles are the most popular choice for kitchen splashbacks as they reflect light, are easy to wipe clean and make a space feel brighter. Matt finishes are also a great option if you prefer a more understated look and are less bothered by fingerprints. Textured finishes like fluted or handmade zellige tiles are increasingly popular for adding character to a splashback without using bold colour. Our showroom teams can show you all three finishes side by side so you can see exactly how they look in person.
Larger tiles actually work well in smaller kitchens as they create fewer grout lines and make the space feel bigger and more open. A 60x60cm or 30x60cm floor tile can transform a compact kitchen. For walls, a large format tile from floor to ceiling with minimal grout lines is a great trick for making a small kitchen feel much more spacious.
Grout colour makes a huge difference to the finished look. Light grout gives a seamless, clean feel while dark grout creates bold definition and is very on trend right now. For kitchen floors we often recommend a mid-tone grout that hides everyday dirt and scuffs. Our showroom team can show you grout samples alongside your chosen tile so you can see exactly how it will look.
