The Brief

Marks and Spencer engaged the services of Armatile to design and execute the entrance panel for their new store front in Brixton. Reopened after a 7 month closure, the new store was to have a market-style aesthetic appeal.

The transformation needed to be a complete change, creating a welcoming, upbeat shopping experience for customers. A refreshing and modern take on a British icon.

Due to its reputation as a leading specialist in the design and manufacture of hand crafted artisan mosaic surfaces for commercial and residential projects throughout the UK, Armatile was approached to create an entrance that would enhance the storefront and be welcoming to customers, while also using the brand’s iconic colours.

A simple, clean, and sophisticated design was created which is automatically identifiable as belonging to the retailer. It pulls classical and luxurious marble into a modern design that is hardwearing and beautiful to look at.

Working from our dedicated design and manufacturing facility in Armagh, Northern Ireland, our team produced samples and drawings to bring the vision to life.

The final mosaic was crafted using precision waterjet-cut black and white marble and carefully pieced together by hand to form the iconic M&S branding in a seamless circular design.

The finished result complemented the storefront and surrounding pillars perfectly, reinforcing the high-end, market-hall feel of the new store. The project was extremely well received by the M&S team, and remains a standout highlight in Armatile’s portfolio.
